As a father with small children, I have spent a lot of time in the trenches of house cleaning. I have spent many a Sunday and Saturday reversing enemy advances, barricades made of dirty dishes, dirty laundry and dust. Learn how to get your home cleaner faster.
Many of the things I have learned make my housework much easier. Maybe you have the same techniques or perhaps you are a brand new recruit to the fight against mess. Grab your broom if you fit the bill. We’re in!
1. Make a List
A good list is essential for a busy day at home. You’re more likely to forget something or waste time if you don’t have a plan. In a messy home, it’s easy to become distracted or lost.
2. Start Easy
Start doing the housework if you don’t like it. You should start with the easiest tasks. You might hate loading the dishwasher the most. You might think that starting a wash in the machine is easier. What you enjoy (or hate the least) should come first.
3. Work Smarter and Not Harder
It’s better to enter a room prepared and finish it all in one go. Running around the house is a waste of energy. As you clean the house room by room, take only what is necessary to do so. In a small bucket, you can carry trash bags, dust cloths, disinfectants, and cleaners. Save the disposal of trash until the end and leave the filled bags in the hallway or another common area adjacent to the rooms that you are cleaning. Double bag your trash bags to avoid making multiple trips, especially if there are two or more stories in your house.
4. Don’t Give yourself a Headache
Avoid inhaling fumes if you are using harsh chemicals. If the weather permits, open windows and shut doors to remove and contain the fumes of chemical cleaners like bleach, ammonia, and others. It is a good idea to wear old shoes when cleaning surfaces that you will stand on such as bathroom or shower floors. It can be dangerous to track bleach throughout the house.
5. Be Sure to only House clean each item once
Vacuuming should be on your list, but make sure that the vacuum has not been clogged with debris since the last time it was used. Empty vacuum bags or canisters and an open suction that is not blocked will allow you to only vacuum once and ensure that your floor will be clean. Use the correct cloth when dusting. Paper towels and other cloths not designed for dusting can make the job more difficult. If you have to use a spray cleaning solution, spray it on your cloth instead of the surface. If you use a dry cloth, some surfaces will be cleaner and more attractive in the end.
It’s true that these are general tips. If you combine these tips with your personal preferences and tricks, you’ll find that housework will go faster and easier. The key to success is organization. It is also important to avoid getting tired or sick. You want to maintain the appearance of your house without having to do so much work that it is too painful.
